In a rare departure from musical comedy, Emil Norlander penned the lyrics to Fredssång (Peace Song), which begins with the lines: "Varför skola mänskor strida, varför skall det flyta blod." (Why should people fight, why should blood flow.) This pacifist anthem, written at the time of the First World War, has been recorded numerous times and published in a variety of songbooks. In 1916 Gustav Fonandern recorded “Ej Till Soldater Föddes Våra Söner", a Swedish version of “I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier”.  

In 1916 Mossberg released two numbers that Columbia Records described as "Swedish Socialist Songs". The first one, "Arbetets Söner" (Sons Of The Workers), was a Swedish labor song from 1885 with lyrics by Henrik Menander. The second one, "Marseljäsen" (La Marseillaise), was a Swedish version of the French national anthem.

The Swedish author Ture Nerman (1886-1969) wrote Swedish lyrics for the Joe Hill song "The Preacher And The Slave" (Svarta Präster). His poem "Den Vackraste Visan Om Kärleken" (The Finest Of All The Love Songs) was set to music and became a popular anti-war song.

Signe Aurell, who may have come from the Glimåkra-Osby district of Kristianstad, Sweden, immigrated to America around 1914 and worked as a laundress in Minneapolis, where she belonged to the IWW. Her poems appeared in "Allarm", "Arbetaren", "Bokstugan" and the Stockholm anarchist paper "Brand". In 1919 she privately published a collection of verse called "Irrbloss" (Will-o'-the-Wisp). Returning to Sweden in 1920, she was living at Osby in 1955 when interviewed by the Stockholm Communist daily "Ny Dag". There are two poems about Joe Hill (Josef Hillström) in "Irrbloss". Aurell's translation of "Joe Hill's Last Will" is in the 1924 songbook "Sånger av Joe Hill".
